Sonic Visuals

One aspect of my work as a musician is to do session work. I have worked in many studios in Ireland and England. One of my most enjoyable experience’s was at ‘Sonic Visuals’ with the sound engineer Andrew Doherty SonicVisuals.co.uk. The studio is set in a beautiful location in the countryside, overlooking Slemish.

Andy is very professional and is great at putting you at ease and has bags of patience. I particularly enjoyed recording the album ‘Ode to String’ there, with my buddies from the Lisaire String Quartet. Lisa Henderson did a stellar job of arranging Stings’ songs for string quartet.

We also recorded 2 videos at ‘The Harlem Cafe’ in Belfast. It was a perfect location. Great vibe. It was however incredibly challenging as we did both songs without editing from memory. I remember towards the end of the songs the pressure rises, and telling myself to hold it together for just a few more bars.

There is nothing more frustrating than messing up at the end, after the rest of the song was going great. Thankfully we nailed them, a testimony to the quartet and how thoroughly we had rehearsed the music over quite a period of time. So satisfying to watch the videos now! ”
